Simple ways to stay organized, confident, and prepared

CORE CHECKLIST

Good recordkeeping doesn’t have to be complicated—but it is important. Maintaining clear and consistent records helps:

  • Keep your homeschool organized

  • Provide clarity for your family

  • Address questions if they arise

 

This checklist offers a simple starting point.

1. Attendance Tracking

☐ Maintain a simple log of school days
☐ Track days/hours if required by your state
☐ Keep records in a notebook, planner, or digital format

2. Curriculum & Instruction

☐ List subjects being taught (Math, Reading, Science, etc.)
☐ Keep a record of curriculum or resources used
☐ Note any changes or adjustments throughout the year

3. Student Work Samples

☐ Save samples of completed work (writing, worksheets, projects)
☐ Keep a few examples from each subject
☐ Organize by subject or date (folder or binder)

4. Progress Notes

☐ Record general progress or milestones
☐ Note strengths and areas of growth
☐ Keep brief notes (weekly or monthly is sufficient)

5. Assessment Records (If Applicable)

☐ Maintain any test results or evaluations
☐ Keep report cards or summaries if you create them
☐ Store any required documentation for your state

6. Communication Records (If Applicable)

☐ Keep copies of any correspondence with schools or districts
☐ Save notices, emails, or forms submitted
☐ Document dates of communication if needed

7. Portfolio or Binder

☐ Keep all records in one place (binder, folder, or digital file)
☐ Organize by subject or category
☐ Update regularly to avoid backlog

Keep It Simple

You do NOT need a complicated system.

 

A basic setup can include:

  • A notebook or planner

  • A folder for work samples

  • A simple attendance log
